Dad's Banquet

Today was Dad's banquet honoring him for his "Distinguished Career Award". This is the highest honor that the TN PGA can give any of its members. Here is the link to the article for dad:

It was great to be able to see daddy's peers select him for this award. It is one thing when you see a grown man cry but when it is your daddy..... talk about tears flowing.... I don't think that there were many dry eyes in the room.

Dad we are so proud of you and love you very much!

The family

Dad giving a speech before his family and friends. There was about 100 people there.

Dad with Alan Richardson. Alan did a great job of introducing dad before he went up to give his speech. Dad taught Alan how to play golf but no longer wants credit for that... especially if you see how Alan plays.....

All of the award winners throughout the whole TN PGA Section

CNY Celebration

The Chinese Dragons were really big and really cool. They danced all over the gym. Jessica was still a little bit scared of them but she has gotten better over the past 2 years.

More CNY Celebration

Learning to do the Chinese yoyo's will take lots of practice. Jessica also liked writing some Chinese characters. Hopefully this is something that she will learn over time.

Chinse New Year Celebration

We had a great time at the Nashville Chinese School CNY Celebration. We went with Mark and Jennifer McKnight and the kids. Jessica was coloring her "sheep" because that is what she is. Her and Lauren wore their hats for a little bit. Luke, Devin and Jessica are tossing the bean bags.

Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year. This is the year of the RAT!!! Are you a Rat???

See the chart below...
The Chinese Lunar New Year is the longest chronological record in history, dating from 2600BC, when the Emperor Huang Ti introduced the first cycle of the zodiac. Like the Western calendar, The Chinese Lunar Calendar is a yearly one, with the start of the lunar year being based on the cycles of the moon. Therefore, because of this cyclical dating, the beginning of the year can fall anywhere between late January and the middle of February. This year it falls on February 7th. A complete cycle takes 60 years and is made up of five cycles of 12 years each.

The Chinese Lunar Calendar names each of the twelve years after an animal. Legend has it that the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals to come to him before he departed from earth. Only twelve came to bid him farewell and as a reward he named a year after each one in the order they arrived. The Chinese believe the animal ruling the year in which a person is born has a profound influence on personality, saying: "This is the animal that hides in your heart."

Dinner at Church

TOnight we ate dinner at church. On the menu was soup and hoagies. The soup had lots of beans in it. I asked Jessica as she was taking a bite what her favorite bean was and it took her a minute to answer... She said jelly beans were her favorite!! She is so funny.
